Our Bridge Projects – A bridge is a structure that carries traffic over or under roads, rivers and obstacles. Depending on the size and usage of the bridge, they are built with an abutment either side. They also usually have a bridge deck on top spanning the distance between each other. Just like our Rattery project, this had a large span over the busy A38 carriage way. Sometimes large abutments aren’t needed i.e for when the bridge is smaller, lighter or has less weight to carry. For example on our site at Carkeel, Saltash which is a pedestrian footbridge. This bridge was a steel structure that sat on our stub columns either side of the dual carriage way.
